Ten Minute Headband Tutorial

Ten Minutes--seriously! I know many headband makers painstakingly sew, flip, iron, top stitch and attach elastic. This is my easy way of having a similar effect in 1/3 the time.

Materials: You will need the following: a 4"-6" x 22" piece of material (20" or 18" if you are making if for a child or toddler), a hair band of your favorite variety, thread.

Step 1: Cut your material to the appropriate size and iron flat.

Step 2: Fold in half lengthwise (the hot dog way for those of you with children) and iron.

Step 3: Fold one edge to the center and iron. Do the same to the other edge.

Step 4: Fold the material in half along the first iron mark and iron flat.

Step 5: Top stitch one side of the strip, then the other.

Step 6: Fold over 1/4" of end and iron. Fold that again 1/2" and iron. Repeat at other end.

Step 7: Place the hair band inside the flap created by the 1/2" fold and pin. Repeat at other end.

Step 8: Zig-zag along the casing for the hair band on each end.

Step 9: Wear!

nice! I love the idea of using the hair elastic at the bottom instead of some covered elastic.

I just made one of these and it really is that easy. Thanks! I do wonder, though, if having the wide width all the way around, without tapering at the neck, will make the band tend to slide back. It seems like it is in the (granted limited) time I have had it on. Have you run into this problem?

I LOVE this thank you! I have very few sewing skills, but I was able to do this. I am building "piles" for Christmas baskets and this is so far the best young girl teen addition. I actually simplified it,I bought bandana's at 10@$10.00 and cut them in 1/2 YAY

I'm teaching 6-11 year old girls in our church to sew this summer, but only by hand. We've modified this headband a bit, and what a hit!!

Thank you for this tutorial!! I have used another tut before and it was definitely a much longer process. With this I can make three in about an hour with my 5,3 and 22month old running around. Everyone gets a headband and mama gets to sew!

Just made one for my daughter -- so fast! Can't wait for her to wake up from her nap to try it on her.

Fine. I can wait for her to wake up from her nap. I'm a big fan of LONG naps... but I'm still looking forward to trying it on her!!
